Besides the plethora of rather repetitive Japanese souvenirs, one can actually get their hands on some delicious Belgium goodies at Maison Dandoy. Founded in Brussels, capital of Belgium in 1829, Maison Dandoy is known for its waffles and Speculoos cookies.Contrary from its description, the No.1 Best selling Liege waffles were not really crisp on the exterior but rather soft and chewy like mochi. (Small-300 yen/Regular-480 yen)
The waffles are not overly sweet and full of buttery fragrance. The other type of waffle is the rectangular Beurre Sale Waffles (No.2 Best Seller). All the waffles are not made in a central factory but fresh from the small kitchen at the back. But if you are not a fan of soft waffles, their signature Speculoos Moulin are the classic spiced cookies that are available in Vanilla Flavour as well.
Each piece (5 pieces per box/ 630 yen) is brittle and gives a clear snap. Surprisingly, they are much less sweeter than many Japanese cookies and fear not that the spices will overwhelm.
There are other cookies such as sables and leaf pies. Since this brand is not found in Singapore yet, I think it's novelty factor is no less than Japanese dorayaki or cookies.
