Afternoon tea? buffet? Or both?
I can't seemed to draw a line between afternoon tea and buffet as both are merged as one for the Afternoon Tea @ 10 Scotts, Grand Hyatt Singapore. Besides an exquisite two-tier of savoury selections, there is a long buffet table of cold cuts, sushi, desserts, cheeses, ice cream, freshly shucked oysters, freshly pressed juices and even a LIVE station featuring a plated savoury hot dish. During my visit, it was Flambeed Chicken Fillet in Red Wine. Simple as it seemed, the chicken breast meat was seared to the right tenderness and so delicious that you can see many returning for second or third servings.
There is more food to stomach than I have expected but I have no objections at all. The savoury 2-tier stand refuses to play by the terribly British rules but elevates the dining experience to an international level. That means you can look out for interesting and unique treats like Spanish cold beetroot soup, Falafel & Hummus, Ham tortilla and Wasabi Mayo Sausage Buns or even the giant Signature Crabcake Balls on Tartar Sauce. Nonetheless, I still got my scones cravings satisfied as they are served warm from buffet counter with clotted cream, raspberry compote and Kaya cream.
Meantime, they accommodate vegetarians with no notice and no fuss by including delicious items like the crispy Vegetarian Curry Samosas and Thai Vegetarian Roll. The selection for this tier-stand is not only refillable (very rare these days but I always support this idea haha), but also changes every season. Rest assure that you won't be lost as the charming waitstaff diligently talks the guests through the savoury and sweet selections.

But beyond the food, taking tea at this homely space is as much about the company as it is the tiny lemon meringue tarts in perfectly crisp, brittle shells. There is no rowdy parties here but hushed, intimate spaces. So while you sink yourself into the plush sofas (just be careful not to doze off as it is too comfortable) and pick up some dainty bites, you'll also want to have some juicy conversations (or gossips) with your best friends. Tea list is extensive, ranging from the light, aromatic floral white tea to the robust black tea. Pretty much the usual suspects so if you like to go for the extra indulgence, opt for the free flow Perrier Jouet champagne.
Service here is top-notched so be prepared to be pampered like a king or queen. It's truly an afternoon tea gem worth seeking out for.
