Les Bouchons @ Rochester Commons: French Bistro and Steakhouse for Romantic Dates

Tucked in one of the beautiful 2-storey colonial white houses behind Star Vista is the fourth outlet of french bistro Les Bouchons. It has an alfresco dining area and an outdoor Petanque court where you can try out the classic French sport and win some prizes. The place not only boasts quality food but also a fine selection of red/white wine to pair with the meal.
Foie Gras fans would be delighted to have the Foie Gras Terrine that's served with buttered toast and onion chutney. It's new and exclusive to the Rochester outlet. Compared to the usual pan-seared version, this cold appetizer has a denser ganache like texture and not as oily on the lips.
From the salads, we tried the French Heirloom Salad which boasted sweet beetroots but nothing wow.
The French Ceps Soup with Truffle Oil ($16++) had a buttery mouthfeel but tasty nonetheless. It's on the salty side just like the Grilled Sirloin Steak ($78++) from the mains which itself was already salted and can do without the salt on the side or any of the dipping sauce.
Speaking of the sirloin steak, it's actually Japanese Hokkaido Black Wagyu M6/7 and we were surprised to have it in a French restaurant. Texture was excellent and it came with free flow fries and salad.
The extra tender Angus beef fillet ($50++) was the more affordable option. It was cooked medium rare and the juices oozed out as you sliced through it. The meat was good but the heap of fries serve together felt incongruent to a dish that fetched such price tag.
Last but not least, we had the Catch of the Day- a grilled seabass from the Canary Islands ($88) The fish was fresh and I love that some parts of the fish skin was crisp. It's served with sauce vierge (a French sauce made from diced fresh Roma tomatoes, olive oil, fresh herbs, and lemon juice), mixed salad and free-flow homemade fries for two.
Overall this place is highly suitable for date nights and gatherings and I would love to try other mains such as pork chop or the highly raved Poulet Chicken.
