Always can't go wrong with the hearty Yunnan cuisine from YUN NANS and I'm happy that they have opened another outlet at Ion Orchard with new creations. One of the must try is their Steam Pot Chicken Soup with Lily Bulb with was first launched for a limited time during Mother's Day 2021, and now a mainstay on the menu.
Other new highlights include:
Braised Fish Maw with Wild Porcini Mushrooms ($42.80 for small /$52.80 for big)
I'm not a big fan of fish maw but the texture blew me off. It's soft chewy and slighty sticky because it's cooked over a long soft flame. A classic claypot stir fry dish done well with Chinese yam, Yunnan garlic cloves and qiubei chillies.
Pomelo Salad with Osmanthus Dressing ($10.90)
Fresh lily bulb petals are washed and blanched in ice water to retain their natural sweetness and crisp texture before being tossed together with shredded pomelo in a house made osmanthus honey sauce. It's refreshing and not too sweet.
Hotplate Milky Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce ($16)
One of my fav dishes even though I can't tell that it's made with the special milky Tofu from Yunnan. The tofu was silky soft and the sauce was full of kick. Not too spicy but goes well with rice.
Claypot Rice with Minced Beef and Crispy Red Beans. ($24.90)
Inspired by the traditional Yunnan household dish of stewed rice with beans, the rice here cooked with a special sauce and served with Minced beef and crispy red beans to give added texture. This reminded me more of Hakka leicha and there isn't much of the typical claypot wok hei. But still a tasty rice dish nonetheless.
Steamed Cod Fish with Mei Cai ($31.90)
I like this dish because the Mei Cai stood out. They used one of the best Hakka preserved mei cai vegetable from Dabu County which is neither too salty nor sweet. It is prepared first by steaming the mei cai to extract an essence which is set aside. The mei cai is then minced and stir fried together with Yunnan bean paste before the essence is added back in for the richness. Lots of work behind it but the taste is indeed different - refined, clean but doesn't overpower the fish.
All the dishes mentioned above are really delicious and highly recommend u to drop by with friends/family to try out more dishes at one go. And don't miss out the brown sugar beancurd pudding for dessert
